This hotly anticipated film came along 20 years after the original and ignored the slew of sequels in between. We return to find Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) living under a new name as a lecturer at a university. She has a son now and a successful career but she still has nightmares about Michael. With the anniversary looming and the university clearing out for the holidays Michael pops up and the killing begins. This is a teen slasher in the mould of Scream, which came just two years before and sparked a resurgence in the slasher genre. Despite doing well at the box office this film was not favourably received by fans of the series, probably because it is surprisingly dull, overly slick and lacking the usual level of gore. It's not a terrible film though and arguably the best of the sequels but it never comes close to the original.

Gore - a few nice tense scenes leading to murders but the gore is pretty sanitised
