Within is a surprising film about a young girl called Rachel who witnesses her mother's murder. Her father whisks her off to a small town in the hope that it will be safer than LA but Rachel's new best friend, Michelle is truly malevolent. As she struggles to fit in and make sense of her mother's death it becomes clear she can see nasty dead people and they're influencing the living in horrible ways. The tension builds gradually and there are a few creepy moments in this absorbing film although it stops short of being genuinely scary. The plot isn't without faults but the direction is good and the acting performances from the two young female leads are incredible considering their tender years.
