This is a good old-fashioned ghost story about a young solicitor, Arthur Kidd, who is sent to a remote coastal town to settle the estate of a recently deceased widow. The local townspeople aren't very welcoming and Arthur becomes increasingly unsettled when he repeatedly sees a strange figure in black watching him. This is a slow burning atmospheric tale which builds towards an excellent and chilling finale. Originally made for television in the eighties The Woman in Black is a subtle film and all the more chilling for it, best watched late at night and alone - it can hardly fail to creep you out.
