This classic serial killer film based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Harris was obscenely successful raking in almost $300 million dollars at the box office and scooping five Oscars. Anthony Hopkins plays Hannibal Lecter a psychopathic cannibal who works together with FBI agent Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, to catch another serial killer named Buffalo Bill (inspired by real life killers such as Ted Bundy and Ed Gein). It's a tense, disturbing film with fantastic acting performances and quality direction. It's also very gory for a mainstream flick and was very well received by horror fans. Ted Tally deserves credit for crafting an excellent screenplay which distils the best of the action from the book. Hannibal the Cannibal is brilliantly portrayed by Hopkins and has left a lasting impression on the public despite the fact he has less than 20 minutes of screen time.
