The Ruins is about a group of friends on a Mexican holiday who join up with another tourist to visit a remote archaeological dig in the jungle. When they reach the overgrown remains of a Mayan pyramid things begin to go badly wrong and the group end up stranded locked in battle with an evil carnivorous plant. The direction is good, the acting is decent and despite some familiar characters and a bit of predictability the script is good too. This is quite entertaining stuff with some creepy ideas and plenty of gore, the basic premise is a little silly but at least it offers some originality.
