The latest film from Shyamalan just goes to prove his writing skills are seriously lacking as a worthy message is hammered across in laughable style. A very creepy opening which features people suddenly stopping dead in their tracks and then committing suicide en masse gives way to goofy acting and a ridiculous contrived plot about plants releasing a chemical which makes people kill themselves. Deliberate or not the acting from lead Mark Wahlberg is appalling; his onscreen wife is played by Zooey Deschanel who manages to be every bit as annoying as her name would suggest. Not really an out and out horror film this does still include some surprisingly gory sequences such as a man being eaten by a lion. While the idea of nature fighting back against mankind is an appealing one the execution here is beyond awful and the final few scenes are nauseatingly twee and mind numbingly dumb.
