The Crazies 2010

The small, remote town of Ogden Marsh goes crazy when a government plane crashes in the area and a nasty toxin onboard pollutes their water supply. Sheriff Dutton (Olyphant) leads a band of survivors as they try to figure out what is going on and battle to stay alive in the face of murderous infected locals and an army clean up squad. This is a remake of the Romero film The Crazies with a bigger budget and a much more subdued approach. It manages to be quite chilling and suspenseful in places but the script takes a few silly turns towards the end. Olyphant is adept at playing lawmen and he holds things together. The infected are like clever zombies with some semblance of their former personality intact but with an irresistible urge to kill. This is one of the better remakes of recent years but it would be nice to see some new original horror movies with this kind of budget.
