It's the zombie apocalypse except with vampires. We follow a young kid as he is saved by the grizzly, vamp killer, Mister and then schooled in the ways of bloodsucker murder. They are travelling for the mythical Canadian haven where civilization hasn't collapsed and they meet various people along the way, some good, most bad, all struggling to survive. The downbeat narration, apocalyptic backdrop and brutal action are nothing new but Stake Land has its moments. The kid is annoying but Nick Damici convinces as the hardened survivor and there's some good support. Director Jim Mickle was also responsible for Mulberry Street which was a great low budget horror also starring Damici. This definitely has a similar mood and style but it does drag a little and it's far from original.

Gore - this is pretty gory with a memorably nasty opening

Vampires - these vamps are completely feral, more like rabid zombies
