Unbelievably this is the second remake of the 1978 Jaws parody, Piranha. Even more unbelievably it's actually pretty entertaining, capturing the spirit of the classic gory, comic, boob-filled horrors of yesteryear. The plot is - small town, spring break, drunken teens everywhere in the lake and a host of man-eating piranhas are set loose. Cue lots of stripping off, obnoxious behaviour and extremely gory death scenes as countless people are eaten alive. The cast is ridiculously good for such a daft film but they all look like they're having fun, with the possible exception of Elisabeth Shue who plays the sheriff. The downside is that the big names get little more than cameos. The direction is pretty good and so are the effects (with an obvious slant to 3D thrills). It doesn't have any real artistic merit but this is a total guilty pleasure.
