The basic premise of this typical J-Horror flick is that people receive phone calls from the future which seem to predict the exact time of their violent demise. When they listen to the message they hear their own last moments. Powerless to stop it they always end up being killed just as the phone call predicted. This film borrows heavily from Ringu and The Grudge and the ghostly explanation behind everything is awkward. What does work is the awesomely tense direction from Takashi Miike and some of the creepy death scenes (there's one incredibly scary one). I's not perfect but it does have some good chilling moments.
