Another Hollywood remake of an Asian horror, this time the original was Into the Mirror from South Korea. The story has been tweaked and as usual there are lots of fancy special effects, but despite a few chilling scenes involving mirrors I found this disappointing and faintly ridiculous in places. The plot follows an ex-cop who has a murky past and now works as a security guard, the clichés continue as we learn he is estranged from his doctor wife. He works at a burnt out department store in central New York and on his nightly rounds he begins to see strange things in the mirrors. The last night-watchman who died in suspicious circumstances sends him a box of clues and, as the mystery deepens and our hero begins to investigate, his family are put in danger. Kiefer Sutherland is typically good but the rest of the cast are awful, the setting doesn't feel authentic and there are bucket loads of plot holes and daft twists and turns with the inconsistent premise.
