If a Tree Falls

A brother and sister and two friends go on a road trip and pick the wrong neck of the woods for a camp out. They wake up to find themselves surrounded by tight wearing, sadists intent on torture and murder. The whole film has a 70's grindhouse filter applied which adds some style but the acting is amateurish, the plot paper thin and it lacks action and tension. A decent set up gives way to a confused latter half and some of the scenes drag on for too long which detracts from the potential creepiness of the killers. There are some nice touches from the director but the film left me feeling unsatisfied and it was impossible not to be reminded of The Strangers. It is a decent effort for a very low budget indie but not decent enough to be headed for cult status.

Gore - pretty tame in the gore department, apart from one scene at the end
