Poor Charlotte is an aging southern belle rattling around in her family mansion. The locals think she is insane because years earlier her married lover was pressured into ending the affair by her overbearing father. His body was found later that night minus a hand and a head. The whole nightmare is brought back to life when her cousin Miriam returns, ostensibly to help Charlotte fight to save her mansion from demolition, but actually she has other plans. Bette Davis is awesomely good and ably supported by a quality cast. The direction and settings are perfect and the story features some terrific twists and turns. This is a highly recommended classic.
