This is an original and intelligent teen werewolf movie that uses lycanthropy as a metaphor for puberty. Two teenage sisters obsessed with death get caught up when Ginger is bitten by a werewolf on the night of her first period. She starts to change, becoming hungry for boys and sprouting strange hairs and fangs. As younger sister Brigitte teams up with the local stoner to try and find a cure Ginger's bloodthirsty desires continue to grow. A combination of dark humour, scares and plenty of gore make this a very entertaining movie. The direction is skilled and the acting is very convincing although this is definitely more concerned with female teen angst than it is with werewolf mythology.

Gore - all sorts of mutilation, clawed throats and blood splatter going on here

Monster - werewolves rarely look good and this is no exception
