This welcome return to horror for skilled director Sam Raimi is an explosive, scary and funny thrill ride. It kicks off with a flashback as a young boy gets his just reward for stealing a necklace from some gypsies - a flaming pit opens and a demon drags him off to hell. You don't mess with gypsies! Cut to modern day and bank worker Christine (Lohman) refuses to help an old gypsy woman who is about to have her home repossessed. Big mistake. The rest of the film is an awesome roller coaster ride of frights and dark comedy as Christine struggles to avoid the curse. Raimi is great at manufacturing jumps and putting together hilarious slapstick scenes and while this is definitely more comedy than horror it is great fun.
