Scheming wife Louise is keen to get her hands on her husband's family fortune but he dies with his mother still alive meaning she stands to gain nothing. She pretends he is still alive and visits the family castle to try and get some of the fortune before anyone realises. Castle Haloran is a creepy place and the family believe it is haunted by the spirit of their sister who drowned in the pond. As Louise plots it transpires that she isn´t the only evil at work in the castle. This is an atmospheric tale written and directed by a young Coppola and there are touches here and there that hint at his talent. The film is certainly dated and somewhat reminiscent of Psycho. It comes in at an hour and a quarter and while it isn't exactly a classic it is an enjoyable b-movie worth watching especially when you consider it is out of copyright and can be downloaded for free.
