I'm a fan of Dennis Quaid, and the prospect of him as a psycho killer was quite tempting, but Beneath the Darkness proves that it takes more than Dennis Quaid to make a decent horror film. A bunch of kids know that the local mortician and small town hero, Ely, is actually a creepy killer who likes to dance around with the corpse of his wife every night. No one else believes them. Instead of getting proof, they antagonize the killer. Everything pans out exactly as you would expect. This is a lackluster, bland thriller and even a tongue-in-cheek, hammy one-liner ridden performance from Quaid doesn't kill the narcotic effect.
