1408 is a surprisingly good adaptation of a Stephen King short story. Cusack plays a cynical writer who travels around debunking ghost stories and reporting on haunted sites. Over a number of years he has gotten used to fantastical tales and is yet to find a genuinely haunted place but when he comes to stay in room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York he finally encounters something truly terrifying. The film has a slick script with a few laughs and some effective scary moments, the effects and the direction are both excellent and this is a really entertaining supernatural horror flick.
